๐Ÿ“– Full Retelling

American actor Eric Dane, best known for his roles in Grey's Anatomy and Euphoria, has died at the age of 53 in the United States on Friday, February 20, 2026, after battling amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), also known as Lou Gehrig's disease. The announcement came through his representatives, who confirmed that Dane had been diagnosed with the progressive neurodegenerative disease the previous year and had since become an advocate for ALS awareness before his passing. In a statement released to the public, representatives described Dane as 'determined to make a difference for others' with his disease and noted that he would be 'lovingly remembered' and 'deeply missed' by fans and colleagues alike. The statement revealed that Dane spent his final days surrounded by his devoted wife Rebecca Gayheart, also an actress and model, and their two daughters Billie and Georgia, who were described as 'the centre of his world.' Dane's career spanned over two decades, with his most notable role being Dr. Mark Sloan in the ABC medical drama Grey's Anatomy, which he portrayed from 2006 to 2012 before briefly reprising the role in 2021. He also gained significant recognition for his performance as Cal Jacobs in HBO's Euphoria. His film appearances included Marley & Me and X-Men: The Last Stand. Despite his diagnosis, Dane remained active in raising awareness about ALS, a disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord, leading to loss of muscle control. His memoir, which was completed before his death, is scheduled for publication later in 2026, continuing his legacy beyond his acting career.
