📖 Full Retelling

Mandelson, who was appointed as ambassador to the US in 2023, was dismissed from his position in September 2025 after details emerged about his continued contact with disgraced paedophile Jeffrey Epstein. The political fallout intensified in February 2026 following the US Department of Justice's publication of additional Epstein files, leading to Mandelson's resignation from the House of Lords amid growing public and political scrutiny. His lawyers emphasized that Mandelson's 'overriding priority is to cooperate with the police investigation, as he has done throughout this process, and to clear his name,' while confirming they have requested evidence from the Metropolitan Police to justify the arrest. The Foreign Secretary, Yvette Cooper, has previously expressed anger over what she described as 'vile' emails between Mandelson and Epstein, further complicating the former politician's position as the investigation continues.
