Murder charge after student stabbed near university

An 18-year-old man has been charged with murder following the fatal stabbing of a student near De Montfort University (DMU) in Leicester. Khaleed Oladipo, a 20-year-old second-year cyber-security student from London, was stabbed on Oxford Street on Tuesday evening and later died in hospital. Harper Dennis, of North Road, West Drayton in London, has been charged with murder and possession of an offensive weapon in a public place. Dennis is set to appear at Leicester Magistrates' Court on Saturday. Oladipo's family released a tribute describing him as a loving family man and an avid football fan, believed to be on his way home to watch his beloved Arsenal when the incident occurred. The post-mortem examination confirmed that Oladipo died from a stab wound to the chest. Police were called to the scene just after 17:00 GMT on Tuesday, and several nearby roads were closed as a result. Prof Katie Normington, vice-chancellor of DMU, expressed her devastation over the incident and stated that support is being offered to students, staff, and Oladipo's family. Additionally, Dennis has been charged with two unrelated counts of possession of an offensive weapon in a private place.
