๐Ÿ“– Full Retelling

The rematch comes four years after the candidates first squared off in 2022, which became the most expensive primary in North Carolina's history with outside groups spending more than $3.8 million. This year's contest is poised to break that record, with Federal Election Commission filings showing outside groups have already spent more than $4.4 million on the primary matchup. The substantial spending reflects the high stakes of the race, which has become a focal point for both establishment Democrats and progressive forces seeking to shape the party's future direction ahead of the 2026 midterms.
