Set in the dystopian theocracy of Gilead years after the events of “The Handmaid’s Tale,” “The Testaments” follows two young teenage girls: the dutiful and pious Agnes (Chase Infiniti) and Daisy (Lucy Halliday), a new arrival and convert from Canada. The trailer depicts the duo navigating Aunt Lydia’s elite preparatory school for future wives, where obedience is instilled into the young female students. “We gather here tonight to bring women back to their rightful place,” proclaims an unpictured voice, followed by shots of a baptism, an accident on a bus, and Agnes and Daisy’s burgeoning friendship, making the former question what she knows about life. In the trailer’s closing shot Agnes states “We had no idea what we were capable of. It was time for us to change things.” The show’s logline reads, “For these young women, growing up in Gilead is all they have ever known, having no tangible memories of the outside world prior to their indoctrination into this life.
