As Cuba struggles with power cuts, how is the island holding up? Cuba's grid operator has restored intermittent power after the national electric grid collapsed on 16 March. It comes amid a US-imposed oil blockade that has crippled the island's already struggling fuel, food, and medicine shortages. Several small groups of residents across Havana have in recent days banged pots in protest against extended blackouts. The series of widespread outages that last for hours or days sparked a rare violent protest in northern Cuba on 14 March, where a building was set ablaze. President Donald Trump has in recent months hinted at a possible takeover of the island and during a White House event in early March said the island was "ready to fall".
