The charity English Heritage launched a new initiative titled "bonding benches" across its historic sites in England this week to combat the growing issue of parental isolation and loneliness. In addition to the physical seating installations, English Heritage is expanding its programming to include various activities specifically tailored for young families. A significant part of this rollout involves a partnership with the National Childbirth Trust (NCT), which will host volunteer-led sling and buggy walks at several selected properties. These guided walks are designed to provide a low-pressure environment for parents to exercise and socialize while exploring the country's architectural and natural heritage. This strategic move marks a shift in how heritage sites are utilized in the modern era, moving beyond traditional tourism toward active social service. By inviting NCT volunteers to lead community-building events, English Heritage is positioning its historic estates as vital hubs for local support networks.
