In 2024 Hogg pleaded guilty to a domestic abuse charge against his by then estranged wife and was subsequently given a one-year community payback order. He had been given an MBE in the 2024 New Year honours for his services to rugby. However, the notice in The Gazette - the official public record - said that would now be "cancelled and annulled". He now plays with Montpellier and remains one of Scotland's all-time leading try scorers and was awarded the MBE for his services to the sport. After he admitted shouting and swearing and acting in an abusive manner towards his estranged wife there were calls to strip him of the honour. Now his name has appeared on a list of people to have their honours taken away. The full notice in the Gazette reads: "The King has directed that the appointment of Stuart William Hogg to be a Member of the Civil Division of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire, dated 30 December 2023 shall be cancelled and annulled and that his name shall be erased from the Register of the said Order."
