Angela Rayner has warned Sir Keir Starmer that his government is “running out of time”, as the former deputy prime minister urged him to reconsider “un-British” immigration reforms. In her most critical intervention since leaving the cabinet last year, Rayner said the public view was that Labour “represented the establishment” as she warned that the “very survival of the Labour Party is at stake”. Her comments on Tuesday to the centre-left Labour group Mainstream were seen as part of an attempt by some Labour MPs to pull Starmer to the left in the face of a threat from the Green Party, and a further sign that the prime minister’s grip on power remains fragile.
