The Department of the Air Force's Portfolio Acquisition Executive for Command, Control, Communications and Battle Management (C3BM) officially established a dedicated Integrated Program Office (IPO) in early February 2026 to lead the development of the Joint Fires Network (JFN). Operating from its headquarters in the United States, this new office was created to streamline high-speed data sharing and long-range fire capabilities across multiple military branches. The initiative aims to modernize how the U.S. military coordinates strikes by integrating disparate sensor and shooter data into a unified, battle-ready architecture. This transition marks a significant shift in the management of the Joint Fires Network, moving it from a prototyping phase into a formalized acquisition and sustainment structure. By centralizing leadership under C3BM, the Department of the Air Force seeks to eliminate technical silos that have historically slowed down communication between the Air Force, Navy, and Army. The JFN is designed to provide commanders with a common operating picture, allowing for nearly instantaneous targeting decisions in complex, high-threat environments where traditional communication channels might be contested. The establishment of the IPO follows a series of successful cross-service exercises involving C-17 Globemaster III aircraft, naval assets, and partner nations. These demonstrations proved that data-driven combat networks are essential for maintaining a competitive edge in the Indo-Pacific and other strategic theaters. The office will now focus on scaling these technologies, ensuring that the software and hardware required for the network are interoperable and cyber-secure across the entire joint force. This move underscores the Pentagon's broader commitment to Joint All-Domain Command and Control (JADC2), placing C3BM at the forefront of digital transformation within the Department of Defense.
