Aides to Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer and House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, both New York Democrats, confirmed that the lawmakers have received the offer. In a joint statement to reporters, aides to Schumer and Jeffries said their offices are reviewing the White House proposal "closely" and that Democrats are continuing to push for "real reforms" on the conduct of federal immigration agents. Federal funding for DHS lapsed Jan. 30, with Democrats calling for more restrictions on the behavior of federal immigration agents in the aftermath of the death of two U.S. citizens in Minnesota.
