The Crown alum, coming off an Emmy-winning performance in Netflix’s Adolescence , is understood to be filling the role previously held by Emma Mackey before a scheduling conflict. Brit actor Doherty also worked on the Disney+ boxing drama A Thousand Blows , written by Peaky Blinders mastermind Steven Knight. Storyline details on the Meyers untitled comedy are not available, but Warner Bros. has given the project a Dec. 25, 2027 release date. Meyers’ earlier A-list-starring comedies include Private Benjamin and Father of the Bride. Her last movie was 2015’s The Intern , which starred Anne Hathaway and Robert De Niro. Meyers is said to have asked for a budget of at least $150 million, but the studio did not want to go above $130 million. At the time, Penélope Cruz, Owen Wilson, Michael Fassbender and Scarlett Johansson were circling roles in the feature, which was titled Paris Paramount , although it was unknown if that was the actual title, a working title or a code name. The project also then centered on a young writer-director who falls in love with a producer. The pair make several successful films before breaking up, both romantically and professionally.
