And despite being contenders for the real thing, an ad released Thursday by Lego finds football greats Lionel Messi, Kylian Mbappé, Cristiano Ronaldo, and Vinícius Júnior competing for the brick version of the cup. The Lego World Cup trophy, released in March, retails for $200 and features 2,842 pieces. Lego is following up the release of the trophy with playsets and minifigures inspired by Messi, Mbappé, Ronaldo, and Vini Jr., who represent Argentina, France, Portugal, and Brazil, respectively. In the ad, the soccer rivals are seated at a rotating table, competing to place their own minifigures atop the Lego World Cup trophy, before a young boy claims it for himself. In addition to the trophy and the upcoming sets, Lego released a 1,498-piece soccer ball, including a replica of a pitch inside the ball. Each minifigure will be part of playset dubbed Lego Editions, which “capture a cinematic snapshot of each player,” according to the Danish toy brand. The smallest set is the “Football Highlights” line; the sets are roughly 500 pieces and are inspired by key moments from each player’s career.
