Unidentified gunmen launched a violent assault on the rural community of Gidan Itodo in Nigeria’s Kaduna State on Sunday evening, resulting in the deaths of three local residents and the abduction of a prominent Catholic priest. The attackers, suspected to be part of the region's notorious bandit groups, targeted the community to instill fear and secure high-value hostages for ransom. Among those seized was Father Thomas Oyode, the rector of the Immaculate Conception Minor Seminary, who was reportedly taken by force while tending to his pastoral duties during the weekend raid. Following the breach of the community's security, the armed gang opened fire indiscriminately, killing three villagers who reportedly attempted to resist the incursion or flee the scene.
