Drawn from real events in Taiwan, the story follows Ho Jen-Jen – a former entertainment figure once celebrated as “Golden Phoenix” – who abandoned her young daughter and vanished after racking up ruinous gambling debts. She awakens to find herself a captive in a sinister care facility where the remaining lifespans of terminally ill patients are staked in a grim contest called Death Bet, and must play to win her freedom and find her way back to her daughter.
