(NYSE:ECL) to Overweight from Neutral on Tuesday, setting a price target of $295.00. Ecolab shares fell 15% since February 27 as tensions in the Mideast rose, compared to a 4% decline in the broader market, according to JPMorgan analyst Jeffrey Zekaukas. Trading at $261.13, the stock now sits 16% below its 52-week high of $309.27. An InvestingPro tip indicates the RSI suggests the stock is in oversold territory, potentially signaling a buying opportunity for investors. The company underperformed industrial gas companies with on-site business operations. Linde declined 6% over the same period, while Air Products gained 1%. Ecolab’s performance was comparable to Sherwin-Williams, which fell 13%, and better than PPG, down 17%, and RPM, lower by 16%. Paint companies are more interest rate sensitive than Ecolab and have greater raw material exposure, the analyst said. Materials companies benefit from de-escalation in the Mideast through reduced raw material inflation and less diminished economic growth rates. Despite trading at a P/E ratio of 36, analysts see 25% upside potential. For deeper insights, InvestingPro offers a comprehensive Pro Research Report on Ecolab, one of 1,400+ US equities covered.
