Represented internationally by MK2 Films (“Sentimental Value”), the movie is strongly tipped for a world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival . Penned by Zvyagintsev in collaboration with Semen Liashenko, “Minotaur” has been described as a political fable blending crime thriller and classical elements, exploring the emotional and moral collapse of a businessman under the strain of personal and political crises. Zvyagintsev’s last two movies, “Loveless” and “Leviathan,” world premiered in competition at Cannes and won the Jury Prize and best screenplay, respectively. His debut film, “The Return,” meanwhile, won the Golden Lion at Venice in 2003. Popular on Variety ”Minotaur” is produced by MK Prods., the production arm of MK2 Films, Charles Gillibert’s CG Cinéma and Zvyagintsev, in association with Leaf Entertainment. It’s co-produced by Razor Film in Germany and Forma Pro films in Latvia. Razor Film will also distribute the film in Germany and Austria, while Films du Losange will release it in France.
