Secretary of State Marco Rubio will travel to Germany, Slovakia and Hungary from February 13-16, 2026, the State Department announced in a Feb. 9 press statement, to attend the 62nd Munich Security Conference in Munich from February 13-15 and to hold bilateral meetings in Bratislava and Budapest aimed at advancing regional security, strengthening energy cooperation, and reinforcing NATO commitments. Rubio’s schedule begins with his participation at the Munich Security Conference, a high-profile gathering of foreign ministers, defense officials and international security experts. The State Department said his presence at the 62nd edition is intended to engage with counterparts on shared security concerns and to represent U.S. diplomatic priorities on the sidelines of multilateral discussions between February 13 and 15. The press statement did not list individual side meetings at the conference but framed the trip as part of broader U.S. engagement in European security affairs. Following Munich, Rubio will travel to Bratislava on February 15, where he is set to meet with senior Slovak government officials to pursue several concrete objectives: advancing shared regional security interests, strengthening bilateral cooperation on nuclear energy and energy diversification, and supporting Slovakia’s military modernization and NATO commitments. The State Department emphasized that these discussions will focus on deepening practical cooperation in areas such as defense capability development and energy resilience, reflecting Washington’s interest in bolstering partners’ capacity to deter threats and reduce dependence on single energy suppliers. On February 16 Rubio will visit Budapest for talks with Hungarian leaders intended to bolster bilateral and regional priorities. According to the release, the meetings in Hungary will underline U.S. commitment to diplomatic efforts and peace processes to resolve global conflicts, and will reinforce the U.S.-Hungary energy partnership. The trip, communicated through the office of Principal Deputy Spokesperson Thomas “Tommy” Pigott, positions the United States to pursue coordination with Central European allies on security, energy diversification and NATO-related cooperation during a period of sustained geopolitical tensions in the region.
