📖 Full Retelling

Iran and the United States are set to hold crucial talks in Oman on Friday, February 6, 2026, focusing on Tehran's nuclear program. This meeting comes in the wake of Israel's 12-day war on Iran in June 2025 and the subsequent Iranian crackdown on nationwide protests. The talks, mediated by Oman, follow a series of diplomatic efforts that were disrupted by the conflict and the internal unrest in Iran. U.S. President Donald Trump has maintained pressure on Iran, suggesting potential military action if Tehran escalates its nuclear activities or continues its harsh treatment of protesters. The talks aim to address the escalating tensions and the future of Iran's nuclear program, which has been a contentious issue between the two nations for decades. The discussions are significant as they come at a time when Iran has enriched uranium to near weapons-grade levels, raising international concerns about its nuclear ambitions. The talks in Oman will be led by Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and U.S. Mideast envoy Steve Witkoff, who have previously engaged in indirect negotiations. The meeting is seen as a rare opportunity for direct dialogue between the two countries, which have had strained relations since the 1979 Islamic Revolution. The talks also follow a series of diplomatic missteps, including Witkoff's suggestion of a 3.67% enrichment level for Iran, which aligns with the 2015 nuclear deal that Trump later abandoned. Iran has insisted on its right to enrich uranium, while the U.S. maintains that any deal must prevent Iran from achieving nuclear capabilities. The talks in Oman are expected to be challenging, given the deep-seated mistrust and the recent escalation in tensions. The outcome of these discussions could significantly impact regional stability and the future of U.S.-Iran relations.

💬 Character Dialogue

Сквідвард: Oh joy, more talks about who can make the biggest boom. I just want to play my clarinet in peace.
Леді Дімітреску: These mortals and their nuclear toys. If they want to play with fire, they should at least do it with some class.
Сквідвард: Class? They can't even agree on how much uranium to enrich. It's like arguing over how much salt to put in the soup while the kitchen's on fire.
Леді Дімітреску: At least my wine has more sophistication than their so-called diplomacy. They should take lessons from me on how to handle power gracefully.
Сквідвард: Gracefully? You mean like a vampire sipping wine while the world burns? I'd rather stick to my clarinet and ignore the chaos.

What to know as Iran and US set for nuclear talks in Oman Iran and the United States are set for talks Friday in Oman over Tehran's nuclear program By JON GAMBRELL Associated Press February 4, 2026, 10:46 PM DUBAI, United Arab Emirates -- DUBAI, United Arab Emirates (AP) — Iran and the United States will hold talks Friday in Oman, their latest over Tehran's nuclear program after Israel launched a 12-day war on the country in June and the Islamic Republic launched a bloody crackdown on nationwide protests . U.S. President Donald Trump has kept up pressure on Iran, suggesting America could attack Iran over the killing of peaceful demonstrators or if Tehran launches mass executions over the protests. Meanwhile, Trump has pushed Iran's nuclear program back into the frame as well after the June war disrupted five rounds of talks held in Rome and Muscat, Oman, last year. Trump began the diplomacy initially by writing a letter last year to Iran’s 86-year-old Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei to jump start these talks. Khamenei has warned Iran would respond to any attack with an attack of its own, particularly as the theocracy he commands reels following the protests. Here’s what to know about Iran’s nuclear program and the tensions that have stalked relations between Tehran and Washington since the 1979 Islamic Revolution. Trump dispatched the letter to Khamenei on March 5, 2025, then gave a television interview the next day in which he acknowledged sending it. He said: “I’ve written them a letter saying, ‘I hope you’re going to negotiate because if we have to go in militarily, it’s going to be a terrible thing.’” Since returning to the White House, the president has been pushing for talks while ratcheting up sanctions and suggesting a military strike by Israel or the U.S. could target Iranian nuclear sites. A previous letter from Trump during his first term drew an angry retort from the supreme leader. But Trump’s letters to North Korean leader Kim Jong Un in his firs...
