After launching in 2018 with Kevin Costner ‘s central patriarch John Dutton III and his immediate family, co-creator Taylor Sheridan traveled back in time to expand the family and introduce elder generations of Duttons, first with the single season of 1883 and then with the series 1923 , which released two seasons . The Dutton family tree has branched out as Yellowstone has been airing. Though the flagship concluded with the season 5B finale in December 2024, the Duttons will continue on in present day with Marshals , the CBS spinoff starring Luke Grimes’ Kayce Dutton now airing , and the forthcoming Dutton Ranch with Beth Dutton ( Kelly Reilly ) and husband Rip Wheeler (Cole Hauser).
