After months of rehabilitation, the juvenile turtle—affectionately nicknamed Pancake—has now made its triumphant return to the Atlantic Ocean. On the afternoon of July 23, as crowds of adoring fans chanted its name, the endangered creature was released into the water outside the Wildlife Conservation Society’s New York Aquarium in Coney Island. Pancake, estimated to be between 2 and 5 years old, was found on November 22, 2025, at Duck Harbor Beach in Wellfleet, a town on Cape Cod.
