Roger Stokoe Goodell is an American businessman who has served as the commissioner of the National Football League (NFL) since 2006. He is the sixth person to hold the position and leads the organization’s executive, strategic, and regulatory functions.

Goodell began his NFL career in 1982 as an administrative intern in the league office in New York, where he worked under then‑Commissioner Pete Rozelle. His position was secured through a letter‑writing campaign to the league office and each of its then 28 teams.
