Mette Frederiksen is a Danish politician who has been serving as the Prime Minister of Denmark since 2019. She is also the Leader of the Social Democrats since 2015. Frederiksen is the second woman to hold either of these offices and the youngest person ever to become Danish prime minister.

Born on 19 November 1977, Frederiksen entered politics after a brief stint as a trade unionist between 2000 and 2001. She rose through the ranks of the Social Democrats, taking on leadership in 2015. In 2019 she succeeded former Prime Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen, becoming Denmark’s first prime minister born after King Margrethe II’s accession and the first to serve under King Frederik X.
