Peter Paul Montgomery Buttigieg is an American politician and former naval officer. He served as the 19th United States Secretary of Transportation from 2021 to 2025 and previously held the office of mayor of South Bend, Indiana. Known as “Mayor Pete,” he is a member of the Democratic Party.

Buttigieg was born on January 19, 1982, and pursued higher education at Harvard College before attending the University of Oxford as a Rhodes Scholar.
