Background & History
BBCâŻOne was launched on 2âŻNovemberâŻ1936 as the BBC Television Service, the worldâs first regular television service with a high level of image resolution. It was renamed BBCâŻTV in 1960 and kept this name until 1964, when the launch of BBCâŻTwo prompted the channel to adopt the name BBCâŻOne. The network has since remained the BBCâs oldest and flagship television service.
