Who / What
Enhypen (stylized in all caps or as En-) is a South Korean boy band formed by Belift Lab through the popular survival competition show I-Land, officially debuting in January 2020.
Background & History
The group, initially known from the show and later signed to JYP Entertainment's affiliated company Belift Lab, was announced as a joint venture between CJ ENM and Hybe Corporation before its formation. The six members—Jay (Park Seung-hoon), Jake (Kim Hong-jin), Sunghoon (Joo Yongchan), Ni-Ki (Jeong Geun-ki), Sunoo (Lee Joshua hyun-gyo), and Jungwon (Kim Jaehwan)—were selected via the I-Land process. Following their debut, they became an official group under Belift Lab.
Why Notable
Enhypen gained significant attention as pioneers of K-pop's "new male idol" concept shortly after debuting in 2020. Their unique blend of rock and pop music, combined with a distinct visual aesthetic (often featuring dark themes), sets them apart from traditional boy bands. They have cultivated a large dedicated fanbase known as Enhypen Army.
In the News
Their unique style and rapid rise to popularity make them consistently relevant in K-pop news. Recent developments often focus on their evolving musical direction, stage performances ("Fusion Stage"), and activities related to TheFans (their official fans named after Hwang Chi-ho's character). They remain a significant part of modern Korean boy band culture.
