Kirsty Coventry is a Zimbabwean politician, sports administrator, and former competitive swimmer. She is the president of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), a role she has held since June 2025.
Background & History
Coventry was born on 16 September 1983 and had a successful career as a competitive swimmer. She later transitioned into politics, serving in the Cabinet of Zimbabwe as Minister of Youth, Sport, Arts and Recreation from September 2018 to September 2023, and then as Minister of Sport, Recreation, Arts and Culture until March 2025.

She is notable for being the first woman, the first Zimbabwean, and the first African to serve as president of the IOC. Her election also marks only the second time a non-European has held this position, making her appointment a historic milestone for global sports governance.
