Background & History
Established in 1966 under the reign of Mohammad Reza Shah Pahlavi, the university was originally named Aryamehr University of Technology. After the 1979 revolution it briefly became Tehran University of Technology before being renamed Sharif University of Technology in honor of Majid Sharif Vaghefi, a prominent dissident member of the People's Mojahedin Organization of Iran.
