Actor Awards: Ryan Coogler Becomes First Person To Direct Two Cast Ensemble Winners With ‘Sinners’ Victory

Director Ryan Coogler made history at the 32nd Annual Actor Awards by becoming the first person to direct two cast ensemble winners, with his vampiric period drama 'Sinners' taking home the prestigious award. This victory follows his initial 2018 win for 'Black Panther,' which also featured Michael B. Jordan in a starring role. The cast of 'Sinners,' including Miles Caton, Buddy Guy, Jayme Lawson, Delroy Lindo, Omar Miller, Wunmi Mosaku, Jack O'Connell, Hailee Steinfeld, and Michael B. Jordan, accepted the award together. Though Coogler did not join his cast on stage, Delroy Lindo spoke on behalf of the awardees. Notably, Steinfeld was not in attendance, but the cast was joined on stage by casting director Francine Maisler, along with Lola Kirke. The Actor Awards, formerly known as the Screen Actors Guild (SAG) Awards, recognize outstanding performances by ensembles in film and television, making Coogler's achievement particularly significant as it marks the first time a director has guided two different casts to ensemble victory in the award's history.
