Spotify, the global music streaming giant, has introduced a new feature called 'About the Song' that allows users to delve into the stories behind their favorite tracks. Announced on Friday, this feature is currently in beta and available to premium users in the U.S., U.K., Canada, Ireland, New Zealand, and Australia. The 'About the Song' feature presents users with short, swipeable story cards that provide interesting details and behind-the-scenes insights about the music they are listening to. These stories are summarized from third-party sources and can be rated with a thumbs up or down, offering a unique interactive experience. This new addition sets Spotify apart from rival platforms like Apple Music, enhancing user engagement and deepening the connection between listeners and their favorite songs. Users can access the feature by scrolling down to the 'About the Song' card on the 'Now Playing' screen of supported tracks. Spotify emphasizes that understanding the context and craft behind a song can significantly enrich the listening experience. This launch is part of a series of recent updates from Spotify, which also includes the ability to purchase physical copies of audiobooks, new audiobook features like 'Page Match' and 'Audiobook Recaps,' and the global availability of lyrics translations. Additionally, Spotify has moved the location of lyrics to appear directly beneath the album artwork or accompanying video, and has revamped its Developer Mode APIs with new restrictions and requirements.
