The White Lotus creator benefited from a tribe swap that reunited him on Vatu with former David vs. Goliath allies Angelina Keely and Christian Hubicki, and after the tribe’s last-place finish in episode three, he helped redirect the target onto Quintavius “Q” Burdette while pulling Ozzy Lusth closer into his orbit. But in this week’s fourth episode that aired Wednesday night, “Knife to the Heart,” White’s carefully constructed position unraveled. The self-described “Machiavellian puppet master” was blindsided by Christian, one of the allies he believed he could still influence, after a conversation meant as strategic insight (but also manipulation) instead set off alarm bells. By comparing Emily Flippen to Gabby Pascuzzi — Christian’s closest ally-turned-betrayer in David vs. Goliath — White didn’t just stir up old wounds. He reminded the robotics professor exactly how dangerous his powers of persuasion could be.
