📖 Full Retelling
Lawmakers in Washington are awaiting a request from the White House for additional defense funding to support the ongoing war with Iran, as classified briefings this week revealed the need for tens of billions in supplemental funds. The House and Senate have received classified briefings from top administration officials about the Iran strikes, with Sen. Mike Rogers, Alabama Republican and chair of the House Armed Services Committee, stating they're going to need money and will have to talk to Congress. While most Republicans expressed openness to providing whatever funding is necessary, Democrats are demanding more information before signing off on additional money, creating a potential political showdown over the supplemental spending package. The request would come on top of the nearly $1 trillion defense budget and the more than $150 billion already allocated through President Trump's previous legislation.
A congress is a formal meeting of the representatives of different countries, constituent states, organizations, trade unions, political parties, or other groups. The term originated in Late Middle English to denote an encounter (meeting of adversaries) during battle, from the Latin congressus.
