Citing Farid Ahmad, chief executive of Dealer Solutions Mergers & Acquisitions in Markham, Ontario, the report said BYD aims to establish 20 dealerships within a year, starting in Toronto before expanding to Vancouver, Montreal, and Calgary. Get real-time updates on market-moving news with InvestingPro Ahmad told the newspaper his consultancy is currently discussing three possible dealership locations and has also been approached by other Chinese automakers seeking Canadian retail networks. The Globe and Mail said Chery Automobile is also preparing to enter Canada, following the government’s decision in January to cut tariffs on Chinese EVs to 6.1% from 100% under a quota allowing 49,000 vehicles initially. The move comes as Prime Minister Mark Carney seeks to widen EV supply while balancing domestic industry concerns. Chinese EV imports remain politically sensitive, with Canadian automakers warning that lower-cost rivals could pressure local manufacturers.
