📖 Full Retelling

The United States government announced sanctions on February 19, 2026, against three Rapid Support Forces commanders—Elfatheh Abdullah Idris Adam, Gedo Hamdan Ahmed Mohamed, and Tijani Ibrahim Moussa Mohamed—for committing atrocities including genocide in Sudan, where their paramilitary group has engaged in widespread killings, torture, sexual violence, and prevention of humanitarian assistance in El Fasher, North Darfur. The RSF and allied militias conducted a campaign of atrocities during the almost three-year conflict in Sudan, particularly during the months-long siege and subsequent capture of El Fasher in October 2025, systematically targeting civilians based on their ethnicity and tribal identity. The Department of State additionally designated Elfateh Abdullah Idris Adam under Section 7031 for gross violations of human rights, noting that he brazenly filmed his atrocities, including the execution of unarmed civilians in El Fasher, making him and his immediate family ineligible for entry into the United States. The Trump Administration emphasized its commitment to seeking a lasting peace in Sudan and ending what it describes as the world's worst humanitarian crisis, calling on all belligerents to accept a U.S.-brokered humanitarian truce without preconditions. These actions were taken pursuant to authorities under Executive Order 14098 and Section 7031 of the National Security, Department of State, and Related Programs Appropriations Act, 2026.
