Editorial policy
Braven News now publishes plain-English syntheses of reporting by other news organisations, produced by an AI pipeline under human-defined rules. These are those rules.
1. Sourcing and attribution
- Every story page is built from articles published by named news organisations. Those outlets are listed on the page, with a link to each original article.
- We publish summaries and comparisons, never wholesale copies. Where we quote, we quote briefly and attribute.
- We do not present another newsroom’s scoop as our own. The “Reported by” line names the outlets that did the work.
- An outlet that never covered a story is never listed as a source for it. Where our model names a source we cannot match to a real article in the cluster, that attribution is dropped rather than published.
2. Use of AI
- Summaries, “why it matters” notes, question-and-answer briefs and angle comparisons are generated by a large language model.
- The model works only from the text of the clustered source articles. It is instructed not to introduce facts, figures, quotes or names that do not appear in those articles.
- The model that produced a page’s analysis is named on that page.
- When the model cannot produce a usable summary, the page shows the original reporting instead. We would rather publish less than publish invention.
- The model does not decide what is news. Topics exist because real outlets published real articles.
3. What we do not publish
- Stories built from a source we cannot identify.
- Medical, legal or financial advice. Health and finance coverage is a report of what outlets said, not guidance for your situation.
- Predictions or speculation presented as established fact.
- Content whose only purpose is to rank in search results.
4. Single-source stories
A story carried by one outlet is marked Calibrating and its significance score is held down. One account is not confirmation. These pages exist to point you at the original report; we do not treat them as settled.
5. Corrections
We correct errors, and we would rather hear about one than not. If a page misstates a fact, misattributes a source, or misrepresents what an outlet reported:
- Email editor@bravennow.com with the page URL and what is wrong.
- Substantive errors of fact are corrected or the page is withdrawn. Where a correction materially changes the story, the page’s “last updated” timestamp reflects it.
- If the error originates in a source outlet’s reporting, we follow that outlet’s correction and update accordingly.
Errors in the underlying reporting are the source outlet’s to correct; errors in our summary of it are ours.
6. Independence and advertising
- Advertising and sponsored placements are labelled as such and are visually separated from editorial content.
- Advertisers have no input into which stories are published, how they are summarised, or how they are scored.
- Sponsored links carry
rel="sponsored". Links to source articles carryrel="nofollow"and are editorial, not paid.
7. Scores are editorial signals, not verdicts
Significance and source-trust scores describe the shape of the coverage — how many outlets, how authoritative, how fast, how recent. They are not a fact-check and do not certify that a story is true. Read the sources.
8. Takedowns and rights
