Welch’s pledge to help CTU sets off alarm bells

Illinois House Speaker Emanuel 'Chris' Welch promised the Chicago Teachers Union that he will lead efforts to get more state money for Chicago Public Schools. He made the promise in a video posted by the union while holding a poster that criticizes planned layoffs and budget cuts. The poster says Illinois underfunds Chicago schools by about $2 billion. Welch said he will act during the fall veto session.
