Commerce Department quietly announces 7 new equity stakes in private companies
The U.S. Commerce Department said it will give more than $870 million in government money to seven private companies. In return, the government will get a small share of ownership in each company. The money is meant to help build factories that make computer chips. The National Institute of Standards and Technology announced the plan in a blog post.
