Answer

President Trump announced he is canceling planned military strikes against Iran because a rapid deal seems possible. This pause in attacks comes after Iran and other regional countries asked the US to hold off on fighting. The cancellation depends on quickly reaching an agreement.

US President Donald Trump has said new talks with Iran will begin on Monday, after calling off what he said would have been "massive" strikes on the country. "They knew the extent of the attack because they saw it forming," he told reporters on board Air Force One. "We're talking to them in the form of a negotiation. It begins tomorrow afternoon." In an earlier post on Truth Social, Trump said he had been asked by Iran and US allies in the Middle East to "hold off" on any attack as the "perimeters" of a deal had been agreed.

Why it matters

President Trump stopped planned attacks on Iran. He said this was because talks are going well. A quick deal is expected soon. Some countries, like Iran, asked the US to wait. This means less immediate war risk.
