The yen surged more than 1% against the dollar to an intraday high of 155.20, its strongest since early May. It has traded near 40-year lows against the dollar, pressured by Japan’s relatively low interest rates and as higher energy prices hit its terms of trade. Japan’s finance ministry could not immediately be reached for comment.
