For the First Time, Zoox Can Charge People for Rides in Its Steering-Wheel-Free Robotaxis

Zoox received permission from the U.S. safety agency to charge people for rides in its robotaxis that have no steering wheel. The approval lets Zoox put up to 2,500 of its electric vehicles on the road each year for the next two years. Amazon's Zoox to begin charging for rides in Las Vegas after clearing NHTSA hurdle

Amazon's self-driving unit Zoox received permission from US safety regulators to test its robotaxis in Las Vegas. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration gave Zoox an exemption that lets it run up to 2,500 vehicles each year for two years. Zoox will now start charging passengers for rides in the city. The exemption comes with extra safety checks that Zoox must follow.
