<p>A mother died saving her son who slipped under the waters of the Des Plaines River near a Libertyville forest preserve Sunday night. </p><p>Around 7 p.m., the woman entered the river at Independence Grove to help her son and after helping him reach a family member, she went underwater, the Lake County Forest Preserve said.

<p>A mother died saving her son who slipped under the waters of the Des Plaines River near a Libertyville forest preserve Sunday night. </p><p>Around 7 p.m., the woman entered the river at Independence Grove to help her son and after helping him reach a family member, she went underwater, the Lake County Forest Preserve said. </p><p>A family member and others nearby helped pull her out and she was taken to the Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville, where she was pronounced dead, officials said. Her name was not released.</p><p>“We are deeply saddened by the tragic death in the Des Plaines River near Libertyville on Sunday evening.
